The MA in Literary Studies: Central Europe in the International Perspective is a two-year full-time programme conducted in English. It focuses on the literary traditions of Central Europe in the context of world literature. Students will study the literary works of major Central European writers, such as Kafka, Hrabal, or Kundera, and learn about the social, cultural, and historical factors that shaped their writing. They will also explore the reception of Central European literature abroad, its translations, adaptations, and interpretations. The programme includes lectures, seminars, and workshops taught by Polish and international scholars, as well as guest lectures by renowned writers and translators. The MA in Literary Studies: Central Europe in the International Perspective offers a unique opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the Central European literary tradition and its place in the world literature. The programme provides students with excellent research skills, critical thinking, and intercultural competences. The alumni will be well-prepared for a career in academia, cultural institutions, publishing, media, and translation. Central European literature and culture, Comparative literature, Translation studies, Literary theory and criticism, Literary reception and circulation, Digital humanities in literary studies, Intercultural communication, Creative writing. The program focuses on literary and contextual thinking about the specificity of Central Europe in contemporary comparative studies – its literature, historical conditions, everyday cultural practices and discursive ways of describing them. These studies will give you a thorough understanding of the literature and culture of Central Europe and the Balkans. You will gain communication skills, related to seeking and processing professional information, elementary research skills, involving independent knowledge acquisition and self-development, and the ability to interpret literary and cultural facts and phenomena. You will learn to communicate fluently in English, both in speech and writing. Cultural institutions (museums, community centers, publishing houses, theaters, etc.); media (radio and TV, social networks, news portals, etc.) and those sectors of the economy where intercultural communication knowledge is prevalent, allowing the future employee to establish effective international relations.
