This is a Master's program in Physics offered in English by the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw. The program offers a choice of six specializations: Theoretical Physics, Computer Modeling of Physical Phenomena, Physics of Condensed Matter and Semiconductor Nanostructures, Geophysics, Optics, and Particle Physics. Students can select their specialization at the end of the first semester, and the training based on the specialization starts from the second semester. The program is designed to provide students with world-class research-based physics training, and each student has an individual plan of studies based on their interests, advised by the specialization coordinator. The program includes laboratory classes, access to computer laboratories and libraries, and the Makerspace@UW for carrying out students' own projects and prototypes. Students also have the opportunity to join research groups at the Faculty of Physics and work placements are included in the curriculum. Each specialization has a different profile of graduate. Graduates from the Physics of Condensed Matter and Semiconductor Nanostructures specialization are trained in experimental studies and interpretation of physical phenomena in semiconductors, semiconductor structures and other systems based on condensed matter, and are prepared to work in research institutions, R&D centers, and high-tech industries. Theoretical Physics specialization trains graduates to conduct their own research or collaborate with experimental physicists in academic and R&D settings, and they are appropriate for employment in research institutions, R&D laboratories, consulting companies, insurance companies, banks, and other financial institutions. Geophysics specialization offers three fields of study, atmospheric physics, environmental physics, and Earth and planetary physics, and graduates are trained to work in meteorological services and other units monitoring and modeling the atmosphere, Earth, or environment, including research institutions. The Computer Modeling of Physical Phenomena specialization focuses on modeling physical processes in all branches of physics present at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, and graduates have general knowledge about physics and selected topics in mathematics and are appropriate for employment in research institutions, R&D laboratories, consulting companies, insurance companies, banks, and other financial institutions. Optics specialization trains graduates in modern optics, understood as photonics together with atomic and molecular physics, and graduates can design and prepare their own optical systems and employ a wide variety of experimental techniques and analyze data, and they are highly employable in research institutions, schools, and technological companies active in designing and producing photonic equipment. Particle Physics specialization develops competences in the field of modern research in elementary particle physics, and graduates will have deep knowledge of particle physics and its experimental methods and are able to define and solve physical problems in routine and non-standard situations. They can work in research units, industrial laboratories, and diagnostic laboratories, and they will also prosper in the non-academic labor market due to their analytical and programming competences.
