This is an announcement for the Master of Arts (MA) in African Studies, which is a full-time, second-cycle program offered by the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Warsaw. The program is designed to disseminate knowledge about modern African cultures, languages, and societies, as well as to impart necessary research skills in the domain of African studies while incorporating methods of various disciplines. The program is interdisciplinary in nature and aims to present Africa as a continent of novel possibilities. The program is conducted solely in English. The MA in African Studies is open to post-graduate BA and MA Polish and foreign students. The program is of special interest to students who wish to pursue future professional careers in Africa, as well as those interested in African cultural issues, such as journalists, economists, entrepreneurs, doctors, managers, diplomats, and humanitarian organization workers. The program also develops competences that prepare students to undertake independent research during their Ph.D. studies. The program has 12 places, including 6 places in the first phase in the June-July qualification and 6 places in the second phase in the August-September qualification. Applicants to the program ought to be open to new challenges and show the will to explore and understand the specificity of African culture and its social and political influence. The eligibility procedure for Polish and foreign candidates takes into consideration the student's overall diploma score and an interview. A candidate can gain up to 100 points during the qualification procedure. The way of counting points is based on the diploma score (up to 40 points) and interview (up to 60 points). Candidates interested in learning an African language at an advanced level should certify the knowledge of the language at least at A2 level. In the absence of relevant documents confirming knowledge of English at least at B2 level, the candidate's language competence will be checked during the oral examination for studies. The graduates will receive a methodological background in the area of African studies to be used in research, including international one, and knowledge on the cultural artifacts of the studied areas. The graduate will be well prepared to educate society on cultural diversity of the African continent and its impact on the development of societies.
